Visitors to the Ilapak-Teknoweb shared booth at Index (4-7 April 2017, Geneva, Switzerland, booth 2551) can see one of the world’s fastest wet wipe converting processes in action for the first time.
Index is the world preview for Teknoweb’s new Exige 4 model - a four lane converting system that can produce cross-folded wet wipes at a rate of 2500 wipes per minute (wpm). Live demonstrations will show how this state-of-the-art converting platform can be integrated with Ilapak’s Genesis Pack flow wrapper in a seamless workflow, delivered by a single turnkey supplier, with a single point of contact for technical back-up.
This is the first time the two IMA Group companies, who announced their integration at the end of 2015, have exhibited jointly at Index. By joining forces, they have become Europe’s first provider of complete production and packaging solutions for the wet wipe industry.
The Exige 4 is a high capacity modular converting system that essentially combines two new generation Exige 2 models on a compact single frame to produce 2500 wipes per minute across four lanes.Teknoweb has achieved this superior performance by simplifying the stacking, folding and cutting processes
Of course, converting is just one part of the solution; the other is flow wrapping, and at Index, the Exige 4 will be shown connected to the Genesis Pack flow wrapper, producing wet wipes at speeds of 100 packs per minute (ppm).
The Genesis Pack is a case study in combining Ilapak’s proven flow wrapping technology with Teknoweb’s wet wipes industry knowledge. It offers Ilapak build quality and performance at a very competitive price. For example, the Genesis Pack is completely servo-driven and uses an open automation platform. The hermetic seal quality is superior to that of other machines in this price bracket. With its single frame construction, the flow wrapper is also extremely compact. The beauty of the Genesis Pack is that it is highly configurable via a suite of modules designed specifically for wet wipe producers. Companies can opt for a basic, economic machine, and add modules such as automatic splicing, edge guiding, unwinding and die cutting at a later date.
For those companies wanting to add a reclosable plastic lid to wet wipe packs, Teknoweb and Ilapak will be showing one of the most advanced lid applicator solutions available on the market today.Through a partnership with Spanish firm ATP, Ilapak and Teknoweb now offer customers the option of a robotic lid applicator. This near-line system inserts reclosable plastic lids into flow wrapped packs at speeds of 110ppm. It shows the excellence in control and quality no other supplier can beat.
